Steve Hammes
Steve Hammes completed a 35 year career in public accounting with McGladrey & Pullen/RSM McGladrey, certified public accountants and consultants, serving the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor and the Quad Cities markets, in December, 2007. He is now a managing director with Jim Schmitt in INTEGRUS Consulting, LLC, a business planning and financial management services consulting firm.
Steve is a part-time adjunct instructor in the Entrepreneurial Center at the University of Iowa College of Business. He also serves on the board of directors of Bankers Trust Company, Cedar Rapids.
During his career as a CPA his client service focus was as a partner/managing director serving owner-managed businesses in the service, manufacturing, wholesale/distribution, construction and aviation industries. His professional business experience includes financial reporting, business valuation, strategic business planning, ownership transition planning, business acquisition and sale assistance and management incentive compensation design.
During 2006 and 2007 he led a McGladrey firm wide task force focused on strengthening the Firms’ infrastructure and people development processes for the client service model for serving owner-managed business clients. That work resulted in the development of the Entrepreneurial Services Group career path for professionals serving these clients.
From 1996 to 2000 he served on the board of directors of McGladrey & Pullen and was involved in strategy work that resulted in the sale of the Firm in 1999 to H&R Block as a strategic capital partner.
His roles in the Cedar Rapids and Quad Cities professional practices included extensive practice leadership, people development and management responsibilities.
In both the Cedar Rapids and Quad Cities markets he has been an active leader in numerous economic development and community organizations. He is a board member and supporter of Junior Achievement, Priority One and the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. He has served on the Long-term Planning Commission for the City of Cedar Rapids, the Long-term Recovery Planning Task Force of the Rebuild Iowa Advisory Commission and chaired the Twin Pines Golf Course Task Force.
He currently serves on the City of Cedar Rapids Local Option Sales Tax oversight committee.
Steve grew up in a large family near Keota, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa in accounting and finance. He has been married to his wife JoAnne for 39 years and is the father of three daughters and a son and has four grandchildren.
Jim Schmitt
Jim is a Managing Director of INTEGRUS Consulting LLC. As Managing Director, Jim’s focus is on client satisfaction, building strong relationships, and the delivery of solutions to clients to assist them in Maximizing Entity Value.
Jim was one of the founding members of ERA Midwest and currently serves as the Chairman of the Board. Jim spent thirteen years in the electrical distribution industry and was the President of a $100 million dollar distributor. Prior to that Jim was the Partner-in-Charge of a CPA practice in Charlotte, NC.
In 2002, Jim was involved in the formation and organization of Vanguard National Alliance (VNA). VNA consists of forty-eight distributors of Rockwell Automation products and services. VNA enables the Rockwell Automation channel to participate in the negotiation and delivery of products and services on national contracts.
Jim is an investor and is a past member of the Board of Directors of HSGBS, Inc. HSGBS is a holding company that owns several manufacturing companies. Jim was directly involved in the acquisitions of the companies that make up HSGBS, Inc.
In addition, Jim is past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Apache Hose & Belting, Inc. Apache is a 100% Employee-Owned ESOP Company. Jim is currently an advisor to the Board of OneSource Distributors in Oceanside, California and the Board of Directors of Clark College in Dubuque, IA.
Jim also served as the Board President for Tanager Place, a nonprofit organization for the benefit of disadvantaged children.
Mr. Schmitt graduated from The University of Northern Iowa in 1977. Jim received the Elijah Watts Sells Certificate of Honorable Mention on the May 1977 National Uniform Certified Public Accountants Examination. Jim received his MBA from the University of Iowa in May 2006.
